Kansas City Ranks as a Top City on Multiple Industry Lists

The Kansas City region was recently recognized in multiple top industry rankings, including the top 25 large U.S. metros where manufacturing is thriving and top 10 U.S. cities for foreign businesses. 

U.S. Cities Where Manufacturing is Thriving
The Kansas City region ranked 23 in a list of large U.S. metros where manufacturing is thriving, according to Construction Coverage

To determine these locations, researchers at Construction Coverage calculated a composite score based on the following factors and weights:

  • Manufacturing employment growth from 2010 to 2020 (2X): Kansas City +8.6%
  • Manufacturing GDP growth from 2010 to 2020 (2X): Kansas City +8.3%
  • Manufacturing share of total employment in 2020 (1X): Kansas City 6.1%
  • Manufacturing share of total GDP in 2020 (1X): Kansas City 10.1%

With more than 2,400 manufacturing companies, the Kansas City area has 109,240 people employed in the manufacturing industry. Read more about KC manufacturing. 


Best U.S. Cities for Foreign Businesses
Kansas City was ranked as the No. 10 top U.S. city for foreign businesses by the Financial Times and Nikkei. The cities were ranked in seven different categories:

  • Workforce and talent
  • Openness
  • Business environment
  • Foreign business needs
  • Quality of life
  • Investment trends
  • Aftercare

Kansas City received the highest score in the “business environment” category.
