Investment in Animal Health & Bioscience Brings Continued Success for KC Region

by Laura Phillips | Apr 21, 2022

This week, the State of Kansas, Kansas Department of Commerce, Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce, the City of Manhattan and Pottawatomie County announced a major win that will continue the growth of bioscience, animal health and biodefense in the region.

Scorpion Biological Services’ selection of Manhattan, Kansas, for a new $650 million biomanufacturing facility is one of many significant investments that are furthering our market as the global leader for animal health, bioscience and biodefense.

This long-term success is in large part due to the partnership, collaboration and dedication to the KC region’s industry strengths over the last two decades.

Many partners from the broader KC regional business community had the opportunity to support Scorpion Biological Services as it navigated the site selection process. Under the KC Animal Health Corridor collective of companies, the KC region worked together to share the key drivers that make our market a top destination for innovation in biomanufacturing.

Over the last two decades the KC region, anchored by Manhattan, Kansas, and Columbia, Missouri, has attracted key organizations to the KC Animal Health Corridor. These organizations include the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) and the location of two key agencies of USDA, among many others.

The continued investment and strategy to galvanize the animal health, bioscience and biodefense ecosystems in the region, as well as the ongoing innovation being developed within The Corridor footprint will only further our region’s ability to attract and retain top companies and organizations to the broader KC area.

Kimberly Young and Emily McVey lead the KC Animal Health Corridor, and their work to elevate and strengthen this important legacy industry are key in bringing companies like Scorpion Biological Services to Kansas City.

Welcome to the Heartland, Scorpion Biological Services, and congratulations to all of our partners who made this project a success.
