Interns Living and Loving Life in KC

by Jessica Palm | Jun 15, 2015

Intern season is in full swing, meaning TeamKC is out-and-about helping young professionals get acquainted to the fantastic region surrounding them.

Throughout the summer, TeamKC offers Kansas City lifestyle presentations tailored to share information relevant to interns exploring the area. Recently, a KC presentation resulted in the following post that appeared on the Black & Veatch Campus Blog

Living and Loving Life in KC
Julia Hilts | Process Engineering Intern, Kansas State University

This past Thursday morning, I experienced a presentation for the Black & Veatch Interns from a representative of the Kansas City Area Development Council. I originally signed up for the event not knowing what to expect (aside from great breakfast food). However, I didn’t know I would walk away from the presentation feeling so inspired and excited to be living in Kansas City this summer. Jessica Nelson started out with various facts about why Kansas City makes a great home: the ease of transportation, low cost of living, and the stable economy. (One of my favorite facts? ESPN rating Kansas City as a #1 town for fan loyalty, win or lose).

But before I knew it, the presentation was nearly over and I felt like I could accomplish anything and everything in this town. My bucket list of things to do now includes attending the symphony at the Kauffman Center, circus at the Sprint Center, Dueling Piano Bar at Westport, and a Kansas City Royals game at Kauffman Stadium. Jessica continued that KC is rated as a top place for twenty-somethings to move to and gave out prizes for the interns who could answer some fun facts about KC. Along with the food, all of the interns who attended also received a free bottle opener. The presentation from KCADC was a wonderful beginning to my summer in beautiful city, a place I am happy to call home.

As the second week of my internship comes to an end, I am inspired to experience Kansas City in many new ways and am excited for the rest of the summer!
