by Megan Segura | Feb 08, 2019

Kansas City Region – TeamKC: Life+Talent, an initiative of the Kansas City Area Development Council and the region’s top resource for promoting KC as a lifestyle and career destination, hosted its second annual Training Camp talent summit for 500 area HR pros at Arrowhead Stadium.

“The TeamKC network is stronger than ever and we are kicking off 2019 with a bold, unapologetic approach to the way we message our KC region as a top destination to live and work,” Jessica Palm, vice president, lead executive for TeamKC, said. “We are eager to continue to lead the nation with our collaborative approach to talent attraction and retention, with more than 1,000 human resources leaders working together to promote KC.”

The event announced the 2019 TeamKC MVP Award, presented to Made in KC for its bold entrepreneurial effort to support local makers, and its collaborative approach to curating hometown products that celebrate the region’s strong sense of pride.

The peer-nominated TeamKC MVP Award recognizes an organization that has made a significant impact by promoting the KC region’s status as a top destination for talent. The award celebrates a group that has gone above and beyond to model collaboration, innovation, thought leadership and impact on behalf of the Kansas City community.

“We are honored to accept the TeamKC MVP Award during a time when Made in KC is working hard to expand our reach and services,” Tyler Enders, co-founder of Made in KC, said. “We’re looking forward to our continued partnership with TeamKC and KCADC to promote the KC region.”

TeamKC officially welcomed its newly elected co-chair and 13 new companies to the TeamKC: Life+Talent Board of Advisors. Molly Weaver, director of talent acquisition for Children’s Mercy Hospital, will join Steve Green, talent acquisition manager, vice president for State Street, as leaders of the board.

“Children’s Mercy’s involvement in TeamKC continues to pay off for us in so many ways,” Weaver said. “I’m thrilled to continue to work with some of the best talent experts in the region, providing guidance and insight into trends for KC’s recruiting ecosystem.”

Weaver and Green will help guide KCADC’s TeamKC staff on regional and national trends in recruiting and retaining talent at all levels of employment, as well as specific challenges and opportunities in attracting top talent to work for companies in the KC region.

“I’m honored to lead the TeamKC board this year, and frankly I’m stepping into the large shoes of Jen Parker,” Green said. “We have some really big plans for 2019, and I’m excited to see what TeamKC will accomplish as we continue our global race for talent in the KC region.”

Weaver succeeds Jen Parker, recruitment manager at Burns & McDonnell, who served as TeamKC co-chair for the past two years. Parker will remain on the Board of Advisors as a member.

During Parker’s two-year term as co-chair, TeamKC enhanced its strategic partnerships with area industry and workforce organizations, created new communication strategies locally and globally to amplify the KC story, expanded TeamKC’s regional summer intern program into a robust talent retention effort to include newly-relocated job candidates and their families, partnered with KC Rising, the region’s long-term economic growth plan; and complemented KCADC’s efforts in attracting nearly 6,000 jobs and more than $250 million in payroll to the KC region.

“It’s been a privilege to serve as the TeamKC advisory board co-chair for the last two years, and I’m excited to continue seeing what our board can accomplish going forward,” Parker said.

TeamKC also welcomed several new companies to its advisory board, including: Aerotek, ChowNow, Essense of Australia, GO Topeka, Imperial PFS, KC Tech Council, Malfer & Associates, McCownGordon Construction, Plexpod, Saint Luke’s Health System, Sprint and University of Central Missouri.

The TeamKC 2019 members join Black & Veatch, Burns & McDonnell, Children’s Mercy Hospital, Dairy Farmers of America, Garmin International, H&R Block, Honeywell, KPMG, Lockton Companies, Spring Venture Group, SS&C Technologies / DST Systems, State Street, Superior Bowen and VMLY&R.
