2024 Intern Season Wrapped

by Team Kansas City | Aug 21, 2024

Together with companies across KC Heartland, TeamKC took summer intern engagement to new heights in 2024. With a focus on showcasing all that KC has to offer early career talent, we highlighted new and notable regional assets, put a spotlight on the staples and dove into what living and working in KC can look like after graduation.

T-Mobile Intern GroupOur efforts had a little something for everyone, both interns local to KC and from outside the region. Explore what made this season so special:

  • We presented KC 101 to more than 1,000 interns from 34 companies around the region, including a presentation + tour of Children’s Mercy Park for 125 interns from 10 companies.

  • 429 interns signed up for weekly KC Heartland emails and open rates soared to 58%.

  • Incredible partners including Boulevard Brewing, KC Current, KC Royals, Sporting KC, Starlight Theatre, Worlds of Fun and 3DHQ provided amazing prizes to over 50 winners.

  • Intern Night at the K was a fan favorite, with 400+ tickets reserved to network and catch the game.

  • The KC Intern Bucket List provided more than 40 resources for interns who, on average, explored for more than 2 minutes per session (the average across the web is only 54 seconds).

When asked what they thought about this year’s programming, about 100 interns shared their thoughts. Here’s what they said:

  • Give me more texts! 78% said texts were their preferred method of communication over email and social media.

  • Help me explore! 82% shared that the program helped them explore the KC region in ways they wouldn’t have otherwise.

  • Highly recommend! 100% said they would recommend the program to future interns! In their own words:

    • “Great opportunity to expand your network and find cool things to do around the city.”

    • “I loved the giveaways because it encouraged me to look at the giveaway prize, and even if I didn't win I ended up taking my friends. For example, after the winners were released for the KC Current games and I wasn't one, I ended up buying tickets anyway and loved it.”

    • “I think whether you are from KC or not, it is a great way to find things to do throughout the summer while also spending time with the people you work with outside of the office, as well as meeting new people.”

    • “The communication was always clear and easy to navigate. I learned so much about the city even though I grew up here, and got to explore parts of the city I hadn’t.”

  • And there’s more room to grow. It turns out, interns want even more ways to connect with one another, more after-hours events and more communications.

We had the best summer! Connecting with interns from around the country and experiencing KC through their view is an honor.
