The Outlook for East and West Coast Ports

by User Not Found | Jun 30, 2015

As the Panama Canal nears it opening, there is speculation the East Coast ports will pick up volume, slowing down the West Coast ports. Experts discuss the outlook for East Coast ports in the summer Commercial Real Estate Development magazine. Kansas City SmartPort President, Chris Gutierrez, was featured in the article saying the Panama Canal will be big for the East Coast, but with the West Coast’s vast infrastructure, it will still be a vital part of imports and exports. Kansas City, served by five Class 1 railroads, four interstate highways and a U.S. Customs entry port, is an important part of the land-bridge used by West Coast port shippers.
