Florida and Kotkin Join the Regional KC Team for Amazon HQ2

by Lexi Ryan | Sep 14, 2017

Our work to prepare a winning KC regional response to the Amazon HQ2 RFP has led us to an exciting opportunity. KCADC has signed a three-month consulting contract with Richard Florida and Joel Kotkin, securing them as advisors in our approach to the KC region’s proposal.

You’ll recall Richard and Joel’s profound expertise and incredible energy when they appeared at our KCADC Annual Meeting last fall. We’ve remained in close touch with both of them since then. They are big fans of KC and are thrilled to have been asked to advise us in this generational opportunity for the KC region.

Both have engaged the full arsenal of their research, advisory and consulting teams which will be looking into our region’s specific areas of strength, intel on Amazon and its culture, as well as anything we should be aware of that might eliminate KC from consideration in this first round.

Richard and Joel will be introduced this afternoon via conference call at our Amazon HQ2 Advisory Council meeting, briefly addressing the group with initial insights and direction to kick off our regional team discussions. We hope that they will challenge us and cause us to raise the bar higher than we could have imagined to put our region in the best position to win the Amazon HQ2.

Our ability to engage Richard and Joel would not be possible without the generosity of our partners at KCP&L, especially our board co-chair Chuck Caisley – thank you!

This opportunity has started out in a significantly public and open fashion, and as such, KCADC is taking an open and highly inclusive approach to the process of responding to the RFP. It’s the right thing to do to put our region in the best possible position to win.
