Link & Learn | Thinking Beyond “Generational Differences” in the Workplace

Powered by KU Edwards Campus, Link & Learns are free one-hour online professional development sessions where you can gain practical workplace communication strategies based on the latest organizational communication and management research.

Thinking Beyond “Generational Differences” in the Workplace - Why Building & Engaging a Generationally-Diverse Workforce is a Competitive Advantage
If you're ready for a fresh take on the challenges and opportunities of nurturing a generationally-diverse workplace, this session is for you! We’ll focus on exploring the interaction between age-based generations and *organization-specific "generations," including workplace tenure cohort and personal life-stage factors (i.e, new college grads in their 20's compared to a mid-career, early 40's employees).

We'll also highlight the professional pitfalls of self-stereotyping (i.e., “I’m having a senior moment” or, “I know that's another one of my crazy Millennial ideas!”), as well as how to be an ally for building age-diverse teams and career development practices.

Finally, we'll highlight why it's important for all of us to think beyond age-based workplace stereotypes and instead create structures that help us fully realize the untapped benefits -- for us as individuals and the long-term success of the business -- of a fully engaged and curious generationally-diverse workforce.

    CareerUp: Elevating Your Career Network
This event will run like a reverse career fair. Students in one of the below three areas will be broken out into their own breakout room. Employers will then go from room to room "speed networking" for ten minutes with the student in each room. Once the hour is up, new students will come in to the breakout rooms and employers will begin the process again. Students are welcome to go to a different "category" for another hour during the event if they wish to network with employers from other industry areas. Students can also stay in their zoom room category for longer if they wish to talk to more employers (and there are more to talk to). Otherwise, they can leave after their hour is up. Employers are invited to attend for the full three hours or can opt to attend for less.

    Time: 4 - 7 p.m.
    Location: Zoom
