Paula Bowers is a life-long Kansas Citian and published author who began her love affair with the written word at a very young age. Since the moment she learned to write, Paula has been writing poetry, short stories and letters, recently completing her first published novel, Accessible.
Paula began her career as an elementary/middle school educator with an emphasis in English and Social Studies. She eventually received her master’s degree in Educational Administration, attaining her school principal licensure. During her teaching career, she was nominated for Kansas Teacher of the Year. After "retiring" from teaching, she devoted her time to staying home with her three children.
Paula’s need to dedicate her life to helping those around her continued. Constantly volunteering, Paula has directed the children's program at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center for kids whose moms were addicts, volunteered with the Postpartum Resource Center of Kansas and served on the board for Heart of America Performing Arts, honing her acting skills at the same time.
Paula is a former dancer and has been married for 13 years to the love of her life. When she is not writing, reading, spending time outdoors, she is very active in her church, and continues her work volunteering with youth.

What makes Kansas City a great place for creativity and innovation?
I have traveled a ton, have seen the majority of this fantastic country, but I can say, without a doubt, that Kansas City is the BEST place to raise a family. The culture, ease of access, combined with the quality of schools and city amenities make Kansas City the greatest playground for children to grow up. To have the opportunity to raise a family in a suburb that is literally just a stone's throw away from some of the finest cultural and entertainment locales is priceless! Activities for children including LEGOLAND, Sea Life Aquarium, the Performing Arts Center, World of Fun, Schlitterbahn, the expansive Kansas City Zoo and the College Basketball Experience bring joy to kids and adults alike. The Country Club Plaza, Crossroads District, West Bottoms, Sprint Center, Jazz District and Power and Light District engage people of all generations and cultures. Having three major league sports teams in the same city bring people on both sides of State Line together to root for the Home Team. That's Kansas City. . . Home!
What is your favorite spot in Kansas City?
Deanna Rose Farmstead snuggling with the baby goats!
Where's your favorite place outside of Kansas City?
Maui, snorkeling for sea turtles, and the Redwood Forest in California – no fresher air on earth!
What's your most treasured possession?
My most treasured personal possession, aside from my wedding ring, is my Mother's ring. It holds the birthstones of all three of my children. I never leave home without both of these rings securely on my fingers.
Who's your favorite fictional hero?
Woody from Toy Story. He is the real deal. Always looking out for everyone else, sacrificing his own happiness for those he loves, and leading with dignity and grace.
Who do you most admire in real-life?
This is a toughie. I admire so many people in my life it is hard to just pick one! Right now I would have to say my husband, Aaron. He has put up with a lot over the years being married to me, and he is the backbone of our family. He is grounded, laid-back, super hilarious, smart and genuine. And he has been that way since day one. That is what amazes me about him most… his consistency. We always know what to expect from him and for someone like me, whose head is in the clouds half the time, it is a tremendous blessing. Having said all of that, I truly, without a doubt, admire his uncanny ability to fall asleep within three minutes of hitting the pillow! OK, maybe that is just pure jealousy.
When and where are you happiest?
I am happiest when I am out in my backyard, lying on the hammock in the cool breeze, hearing my children playing while I am writing!
