During challenging economic times, we sometimes hear “just wait and see what happens with the market.” Not in Liberty, Mo. City leaders are moving forward with plans for a Science & Technology Park in its Heartland Meadows Business Park. Heartland Meadows is in a great location, just off of 69 Highway, less than a mile from Interstate 35, and just three miles from Interstate 435. The park is15 minutes to Kansas City International Airport and downtown Kansas City, Mo.
Heartland Meadows was developed by Hallmark which still owns much of the property in the area. Through an agreement with Hallmark, the City of Liberty now has control of 42 acres specifically for bioscience and technology companies. Because the property is owned by the City it can allow the first business within the City’s Science and Technology Park to have the opportunity for increased incentives that others may not. Mayor Greg Canuteson is not waiting for the market to turn. He is forging ahead and improving the market so Liberty will be ready when the economy recovers.
The City of Liberty, in conjunction with the Liberty Economic Development Corporation, is actively seeking a Master Developer to assist the City in the development of the Science and Technology Park. We need a firm that is knowledgeable and experienced in developing a business park focused science, research technology or engineering based businesses in the fields of agriculture, biology, life sciences, information technology and engineering. The firm we select will have the experience to lead a marketing effort to reach and attract local, regional and national science and technology firms and have the capability to invest in and/or assist in arranging third party capital for investment in the development.
The RFQ can be accessed on the City’s website www.ci.liberty.mo.us/economicdevelopment and the Liberty Economic Development Corp. www.thinklibertymo.com
