Employment

Kansas City employs more people in distribution and warehousing than the national average. Currently, 4.3% of the workforce is employed in distribution and warehouse jobs compared to 3.2% nationally—Mid-America Regional Council.

Supply Chain Training in Kansas City

SmartPort has spearheaded a supply chain education initiative that has brought those involved in the transportation and logistics industry in Kansas City together with area educational institutions to identify the training needs for the industry. Kansas City has traditionally been a transportation hub due to its geography in the center of the U.S. and the access to all major modes of transportation. Four large intermodal projects are being developed in the Kansas City area that will create thousands of jobs. Currently, there are several local training programs in the area that offer training to educate the workforce to be skilled for the current and upcoming jobs in the transportation and logistics industry.
